“Mad Men,” “Modern Family” Take Top Awards at Critics’ Choice TV Awards

As any television fanatic would know, AMC’s “Mad Men” won best drama and “Modern Family” picked up the best comedy award at the inaugural Critics’ Choice Television Awards on Monday on VH1. “Mad Men” also snagged two more awards at the event. The show’s lead Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper in the series, won best actor in a drama. Hamm also won a Golden Globe in 2008 for the same role. Christina Hendricks nabbed the award for best supporting actress in a drama.

Julianna Margulies won best actress in a drama for her portrayal of Alicia Florrick, a struggling lawyer trying to handle her husband’s ongoing scandal, in CBS’s “The Good Wife.” TV funny gal Tina Fey won best actress in a comedy series for her work on NBC’s 30 Rock. Fey, who is also the creator, a writer and an executive producer for the show, plays Liz Lemon, a neurotic head writer for a sketch-comedy live show, based on “Saturday Night Live.” She has also won Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Emmys for the show. Recently, Fey released a memoir called “Bossypants,” which was a “New York Times” bestseller.

Fox’s hit “American Idol” won best reality series competition, while Mike Rowe from “Dirty Jobs” won best reality show host (sorry, Ryan Seacrest). Jon Stewart’s nightly satirical news broadcast “The Daily Show” won best talk show. Between 2001 and 2010, “The Daily Show” has won 14 Emmys and received a further seven nominations.
