Major Airlines Introduce More Fare Hikes
Since the implementation of baggage fees, customers have learned that no news is good news when it comes to airlines making headlines. The latest from major U.S. airlines is a proposed $10 raise in domestic round-trip airfare. Checking WeatherBlink to see how the temperature will be during your next vacation? Well, maybe you should check your bank account instead. The projected raise will be the seventh increase this year alone.
U.S. Airlines and Delta have both confirmed an increase in ticket prices on some routes, and JetBlue and Virgin America quickly matched the increase, all trying to counter rising fuel costs. Airlines have tried raising prices nine times this year. Six stuck, and the remaining three failed when other airlines refused to raise their prices.
Experts say Southwest Airlines will be the determining factor in whether or not this raise will stick. If the airlines joins its competitors and meets the price increase, there’s a good chance you won’t be checking WeatherBlink for the weather in the Bahamas. Until the price of flights drops, vacations might be traded in for the increasingly popular staycations.
